11:16 am - aieee.
|
so, anyway. everything just sucks right now. i don't know why i'm so damn moody- gee golly, i hate being a girl. ah well. it's like the weather here- just wait a day os two and everything will be much better. on a much happier note, i am officially in love with a new guy. on the downside, he's forty, lives in Europe, and there's a strong possibility that he may prefer boys. Well, it's not like he's any less accessible than any of the other actors i love to death... (except on film, damn, the bastard is elusive! only like, two of the movies he is in have been released in the US... snark.) his name is Jerome Pradon and a picture of him looking at my boobs will be inserted if, at any point, i figure out how to do that:::
so, i know i am the only person that reads this, but i'm a-gonna type it out anyway- he is Judas in the 2000 film version of Jesus Christ Superstar, and while a lot of people criticize him for his performance (for his voice breaking, of all things- while he's playing a character going through incredible pain. it's called acting, kids. there's more to musical THEATRE than hitting every note in pitch-perfect timing.) if anyone has any doubts as to his ability, they should check out some of the other things he's done, most of which are pretty damn hard to find here...
lessee, it's not too hard to find the soundtrack to "Killing Rasputin" online, and although *downloading music is bad* this is rather impossible to find in a physical form. trust me, it's not available at your local Best Buy. the musical itself ain't that great- i mean, seriously, it's a musical about Rasputin, in Russia, and you need a decent knowledge of the story to know what's going on. on the plus side- no comical animated bats or meg ryan. try out "To Love is To Hate," an interesting Jerome solo. Or better yet, how about "Invitation" (which comes bundled together with "Day of My Life") which is downright creepy. Jerome, (as Rasputin,) is plotting to steal the love of a woman who doesn't want him. EVIL! Wait, Lucifer, wait...
If you like this evil, conniving Jerome, then check out the ORIGINAL cast recording of "Martin Guerre." *NOT THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST- not only are the performers different, the songs are too.* Jerome plays Guillaume, (Gi-yaum,) a misguided man plotting to steal the love of a woman who doesn't want him. yes, he was Judas, (the 'bad guy,' although i don't buy that,) and he was Rasputin, and now he's bad again! he even played Javert in the London cast of "Les Miserables!" is he only bad characters!? no. he's just good at them. Highlights on MG include track 3, the title of which may or may not be "where's the Child?" which has stellar lines, like the bitingly sarcastic "Screw him! Wait! We mustn't think the worst! Screw him! Well, it seems we'd be the first, without some rain, a woman dies of thirst!" (Which, i've just realized, is vastly more entertaining when heard than when read...) And the pitiful "Please, Bertrande, if you knew the tears I've shed; Why love him when you could love me instead?" (To which the bitch replies "Love, Guillaume? I would rather I was dead!" Whereas I would have been like, "Love Guillaume? Okay!")Up next is track 19, "I will Make You Proud," Guillaume's big rallying song about driving out the Protestants. Bad Guillaume! Good song, though, showcasing an amazing and powerful vocal range. (Personal favourite lines: "Look around, can you see what the world has become?" and "Everywhere is chaos, everywhere is doubt. Everywhere are heretics, the time has come to burn them out!" Poor Guillaume is a touch paranoid. Soon after, he meets his end, by a shovel to the head. his life mostly sucked, i think.)
So yes. after this, one should be convinced that he has incredible talent acting while singing- a lot of performers tend to do one or the other. if not, or even if you are... even if you don't give a damn and no way in hell are you going to bother to track down this bullshit, then go find "Seul Devant ces Tables Vides," The original, French version of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." No, it doesn't translate literally, but damnation. This is the song that basically established Jerome as an amazing musical theatre artist. Yes, Marius has other songs. But lemme tell you, finding "Les Mis" in French is way harder than it sounds. Number one, there is more than one version of the musical, and you don't want the concept album, you want the original Paris cast. "Seul Devant ces Tables Vides" is worth looking for if you like the english version of the song at all. you'll know you have Jerome by a pecuiliar squeak to his voice, at the beginning of a note, which is less noticeable in this song than in most other things he's done. And the sneering sound to the last word of the song- it stands out to my american ears, although i believe it has a lot to do with the French accent. Anywhichway, it's phenomenal. and it's the version every singer after this, english version especially, has based their performance on. Jerome is floating somewhere in the Anniversary Concert of Les Mis, but i have no idea where. it's been roughly 2 years since i've seen anything about that...
all that said, what i find most endearing about his voice, apart from the way emotions come through so clearly in his singing, is the strange little squeak to his voice at the beginning and end of syllables. And his demented little giggle he is prone to, at the oddest moments. That's what really got me, in JCS- the twisted, sarcastic, and self-demeaning smile whenever Judas is feeling particularly betrayed himself. In the confrontation with the priests, immediately before Judas' death, Caiaphas tells him "You'll be remembered forever for this" and Judas' face contorts into this wonderful grin, because he can see the demented humour in all of this. gah. it's a consistent character choice in this film, and though i thought it impossible, it made me even more sympathetic toward the character. (Judas is the role i dream of playing someday, my status as a female notwithstanding.)
I love Jerome Pradon, as a singer and an actor. Cheers, buddy!
peace out, yo!!!

2:41 pm - oh holy shit
|
i'm not dead. might as well be, for as interesting as i am these days, but well. who the fuck cares, right? no one, that's right. i'm still a-feeling like a dumbass, because i was utterly tormented through the whole of "50 First Dates" because i was like, damn, that guy looks like Sean Astin. Do y'all think that guy looks like Sean Astin? I think it's him... no, maybe not... yes, I think it is... (i felt a little crazy. and of course, it is Sean Astin, i'm just so used to seeing him like, 30 pounds overweight with shaggy hair and an accent. oi.)
and yes. whatevah.
oh holy shit and hell bright and mighty, they're making a live-action "Last Unicorn!" now, i've been saying for a few years that they HAVE to make a live-acrion before Christopher Lee gets too old, and I've also been very convinced that Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the most beautiful man i've ever seen, MUST play Schmendrick. he has that immortal, wise look trapped in this angelic, young face. i loves him most dearly, fer real. ever since the first time i saw "Velvet Goldmine."
sigh.
they haven't casdt Amalthea yet. there's hope for me!!! hello, void! cast brittany as Amalthea!!! there's no-one better!!!! yah!!!

i got to see daredevil it was pretty good, and ben affleck didn't fuck it up as much as i thought he might, but colin farrell was just great. (except for his 'last' line, it was like "i don't wanna do that, don't make me" and it was stilted and over symbolic and i didn't like it...)

wowee. i somehow managed to delete everything i just typed. guess it wasn't that important... i. want. to. be. an. Elf. one day, i will wake up with pointy ears and immortality. *sigh* i wish! i'd be happy if i could run around everyday in medieval/renaissance/18th century/fantasy costume, aand while i suppose i could anyway, i don't really have the energy to explain myself as many times as that would require. i love costumes more than anything, and there need to more excuses to wear them. halloween, faires, and midnight movie showings are not enough...
when i am queen of the world, there will be at least one costume day per month.

i survived! a whole (well, 3/4 of) art class! yippers. it is raining, so i'm like, ick. yuck. i don't want to go outside. anyway, i am going to be praxagora in "assemblywomen." not too bad, because she's the ""lead"" woman, but still. i wanted to be the chorus leader. but i think alyssa will be great there, she's funny. there is something wrong with my tongue. i wonder what? rather unpleasant, that. eeeenneeeeeweay.
"I said, who are you?" "Let's see. Well, seeing that today certainly is my day--why don't you call me Wednesday? Mister Wednesday. Although, given the weather, it might as well be Thursday, eh?" "What's your real name?" "Work for me long enough and well enough," said the man in the pale suit, "and I may even tell you that."

7:01 pm - nobody exploded...
|
i made it to, and through coldplay with no casualties to either myself or the band. if you don't count the long, boring and terribly unimpressive opening act, ron sexsmith. bleargh. poor guy. but coldplay was just amazing, and we were so close to the stage! i'm gonna post the playlist so i'll not forget it... -politik -shiver -spies -daylight -warning sign -one i love -bones -everything's not lost -moses (new) -god put a smile on your face -yellow (my mommy: "are they the boys who do that orange song i like? :} ) -the scientist and den da encore -clocks (beautiful!) -in my place -trouble -ladder to the sun (new) it was just lovely, i can't put it any other way. i still can't hear all that well... hee hee.people never understand that even fairly mellow bands can rock pretty hard live (starsailor, anyone?) so. anywhich.
i didn't die on the ice going home or coming back to school, so i s'pose i'm thankful. i saw moby's video for "in this world" for the first time this afternoon and i cried for half an hour. that is just the saddest video! i wanted to hug those poor little aliens. it remindd me a bit of "the man who fell to earth," only with a lot happier ending. these aliens at least went home, where they're loved. tj became more or less human, which is a perfectly terrible fate. sometimes i hate being myself.
i think i am gonna go to bed early tonight.

3:41 am - fire drill
|
well, at least i was awake this time... you see, as i already said, we southerners aren't used to this cold weather, but here we are, 3:40, just rolling in from outside. dumb stupid fire alarm. this time, though, instead of burnt popcorn, someone's heater exploded and sprayed water everywhere. whooooohoooooo. this shit went off at 3 am. it needs to end immediately. but the best part is the fashion statements made by everyone- you kinda roll out of bed and grab the warmest thing you can find. but the part that confuses me the most are the stylettos- those girls that are always immaculately dressed, complete with makeup and hair. boggles the mind, i tell you.

so. my first foray into ljing. mmm. i don't expect anyone but me to read this, but i know a lot of people that get addicted so i suppose i had better watch myself. anywhich. so. i am snowed into greensboro, currently, and not very happy about it. i am supposed to be in charlotte right now, about 80 miles away. but noooo. it has snowed. a fucking blizzard, for us. it is colder here in the south than it is in iceland- i checked. that's kinda sad. we don't know how to deal with it, students are stumbling around looking lost and sad, with 3 jackets layered up and wet trainers. but i am supposed to be seeing coldplay this saturday, well, at this point that's tomorrow. i will become violent if deprived of my britoptiprock, {british optimistic pop-rock.} i needs it, my precioussss...
